Message From CRA's President

Jeff Roberts , CRA President

FWhile the California Rental Association has been a great partnership for all our members businesses, it is a great resource for help when dealing with those agencies wishing to help both regulate and standardize our industry.  Specifically, I am referencing 1) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulating Respirable Crystalline Silica deemed a toxic and hazardous substance.  2) California Labor Law regulations about “Meal Breaks”.  3) American National Standards Institute (ANSI) new upcoming standards about self-propelled Aerial Work Platforms (AWP).

All three regulations and standards are amongst a vast sea of rules both enhancing and sometimes encumbering our operations.  I would encourage all of you to drill down deeper into the meaning and repercussions of the three I’ve mentioned.  The purpose of my message is not to side as a proponent or opponent of any issue, but to keep you informed.  My stronger message is to remind you as a CRA member of the invaluable resources you have available to you when you belong to our association.  Regarding item (1), we have numerous vendors in our group representing manufacturers of OSHA compliant tools addressing the Silica Rule.  For item (2), the CRA has two outstanding attorneys able to advise and assist the Meal Break rules.  For item (3) we again, have numerous vendors representing manufacturers able to help as it applies to ANSI standards for our booms and scissor-lifts.  Lastly, we have a large membership of seasoned Party and Equipment Rental Yard owners and operators with an endless knowledge of our industry.

I like lemonade and as a rule like to make lemonade out of lemons, and then drink from a glass half full.  You get the idea.  Reach out to your associations members both rental and vendor, share a glass of lemonade and see how we make a positive impact on our business and customers.  If you’re okay with the silica rule, buy some vacuums from a CRA vendor and rent to your customer.  If ANSI standards sit well, modify or upgrade your fleet of AWP’s with the help of your CRA vendor.  And yes, reach out to our attorneys for help with labor laws.  If you have heartburn over any of the rules or regulations, join the legislative arm of our association and help make changes.  The synergy amongst our association is boundless and simply requires your input and participation.
